While in Thailand on assignment I came across an interesting sports in the rural village of Chanburi. Buffalo racing here is part of the heritage of this lost and lonely land, going back hundreds of years. It is a huge part of the culture, drawing large crowds who come to bet their fortunes on their favorite bulls. Children learn to ride from a very early age, basically by jumping on the hind of these 4 ton beasts and holding on for dear life. There is no stearing or stoping the animal, and often they crash into each other or barriers, resulting in bloody chaos. On this particular day, which was a practice session, there were no fatalities, but also no lack of excitement either.
