ALA ONG: STORY OF CHANGE

BRANDED DOCUMENTARY

This is one of the first branded documentaries I ever made. I spent three months deep in Cambodia with filmmaker Sami Joensuu documenting the daily life of the small village of Anuk Lang, which you will not find on any map. This village is and has been completely cut off from the modern world, so much so that a television our village host had was re-purposed as a light source that could be hooked up to a scooter battery, as she had no idea of its intended purpose. We let them tell the story of how the humanitarian aid group FIDA made it their mission to bring basic heath and wellness knowledge to their village, after Ala Ong’s youngest daughter died from a treatable illness. Heartbreaking but hopeful, this was a difficult piece to craft, but something that is still so rewarding to watch.
