Long Bio (250 words)

Roberto Serrini is a director, editor and travel writer who has spent more than 20 years making films for brands and stories about the world. Born in New York to Italian parents who worked for Alitalia, he grew up between airports, and travel has shaped his work ever since.

He began as a music-driven editor, led the motion department at thelab NYC, and went on to direct commercials and branded films for Nike, Apple, Honda, BMW, Marriott, Google, Corona and National Geographic. In 2014 he was the featured director on Oxygen’s modeling competition The Face, directing the contestants’ Chopard campaign. He often shoots, edits, flies the drone and finishes his own work, a one-person approach he formalized as One Man One Camera.

His documentaries have travelled as far as he has. Walking with Shackleton, filmed in Antarctica for Quark Expeditions, won Gold at the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards and an International Tour Film Festival award. His food films Italy In Bocca and Disco Sauce, the true story of penne alla vodka, won Taste Awards and screened at the Calandra Italian American Institute. His motorcycle films, including Moto Borgotaro and BMW’s centennial series The Rider, have been covered by The Vintagent, Silodrome and No Film School.

Roberto is Editor at Large of Get Lost Magazine, a partner at No Frames, and a SHOOT New Directors Showcase alum with an ADC Gold Cube and a One Show Silver Pencil. He speaks Italian, Spanish and French, and is at work on All the Stories I Couldn’t Tell, a collection of the travel stories editors never ran.

I make things with extreme intention, because work made that way travels. LBB and SHOOT have profiled the commercial work, and shots covered my signing early on. Motorcycle.com and AdvRider.com ‍announced that my work led to record sales. ‍The Vintagent picked The Rider, our BMW centennial series, and No Film School and Silodrome covered Moto Borgotaro, which found its audience with motorcycle lovers worldwide. Gambero Rosso dug into the penne alla vodka story behind Disco Sauce, and Walking with Shackleton took Gold at the Magellan Awards and an ITFF award for Quark Expeditions. I also serve as a judge for the USA Today 10Best awards and the US International Awards. I want every film to leave something behind in the community it was made for, and these are a few of the places it has.

Reviews and Highlights

Eli Ash, EP Netflix

“Serrini is the kind of multi-hyphenate creative that you're in awe of constantly. He can shoot, direct, edit, VFX, sound and color. He is one of the most remarkable creatives I've had the privilege of working with, bringing joy and energy to everything he does, making it feel less like work and more like fun."

Eli Ash

Marcus Wesson, CCO, Dailey

“Roberto is one of those rare directors that will take your idea, and supercharge it. Not only that, but he’s the most prolific creative I’ve ever met. Need a drone? Got it. Need some animation? Done. Need a killer voiceover? Yep, that too. Oh, yeah, he’s a master editor too. I’ve worked with him several times and each time I feel like I’m getting away with something special.”

Marcus Wesson

Jennifer Matteucci, Brand Manager, Verizon Media

“Roberto has been an indispensable partner for us in the last few years. Never more so than during the quarantine restriction. He has been our go-to resource for video production, editing, and remixing, helping us on numerous, high-visibility projects. He's truly multi-talented and works efficiently and within tight deadlines. I don't know what we would do without him!”

Jennifer Matteucci

Suzette Tsang, Marketing Operations Director, Nike

“Roberto is a super talented, prepared, and adaptable director who has been amazing to work with on all of our Nike athlete shoots around the world. His ability as a director to easily make them feel comfortable and get fantastic performances from them even after a long day of shooting and in a foreign language is a skill I rarely see in other directors.”

Suzette Tsang

Jonny Edwards, Executive Producer, 72andSunny

“Roberto is one of the most talented, passionate, collaborative directors I’ve ever worked with. We’ve worked on countless campaigns; everything from technical product shoots to loose, run-and-gun documentary shoots and he is a true master of his craft. He always stays cool and collected and presents smart solutions. I don’t think I’d be where I am today without Roberto, he is a true gem.”

Jonny Edwards

Bayu Legendariz, Head of Production, Imagen Pictures Jakarta

"In my opinion, Roberto Serrini is a complete director, with an eye for beautiful visuals and impeccable taste. He’s also humble and fun so he gets along very well with both clients and producers. He is really a team player, always understanding the burden on the producer's shoulder, the heavy work of the team, the expectations of clients and agency."

Bayu Legendariz

Keira Alexandra, Head of Production, Work-Order NYC

“Serrini is the last remaining of a breed, best of his kind, a true stealth renegade. It's not just shoot and cut and put a bow on it with this guy, there's actual development, ideas, and true heart and soul like you've never seen. And he doesn't just say it, he does it — all-of-it. In short, this is an unstoppable beast of a human wrapped in a motivation machine."

Keira Alexander

David Bridges, CEO, thelab

“Working with Roberto for years, he is easily one of the most multi-talented, resourceful creatives I know, where nothing is ever a problem and everything gets figured out. Producing high quality creative content quickly and efficiently is what Roberto is all about. Whether it’s shooting video, stills or firing up a drone in remote locations, I always have the highest confidence that Roberto will get what we need.”

David Bridges

Dee Tagert, Executive Producer, Carousel

“Roberto is both a phenomenal Director and Editor. He loves people and life, it is always on display in his work, and his visual storytelling ability is captivating and alluring. Beyond anything else he’s a really nice guy, and a pleasure to work with in any situation.”

Dee Tagert

Shawn Angelski, Executive Producer, Pink Buffalo Productions

“Serrini is one of those rare talents that can actually execute the crazy things he thinks up. His passion for creating comes through on everything he does, which makes it easy to be his Producer, and impossible not to become his friend in the process. His work is an extension of his love for life and it truly is a beautiful thing to behold.”

Shawn Angelski

Alicia & Hal Wolverton of Johnson + Wolverton

“Roberto’s work is irreverent and surprising, and perhaps most surprising in this era is that the irreverence is always rooted in big-hearted kindness. Rare. Simply put, Serrini makes magic of all kinds.”
